Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as an TV reporter and radio reporter at the time in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. She then became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. In 1992, she was named as the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 she became the chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News. Mitchell played both host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was the ex-chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell worked in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories, including the Iran-contra controversy and tax reform. She traveled alongside Ronald Reagan on numerous trips to international summits, and also reported extensively.
